Weather and Red Rocks

Another exciting day with Mimi!  We left the house at 9 am to drive to the hot springs somewhere 2 hours away.  However, woke up to heavy winds and Mimi said if it looked too bad in the mountains we would turn around.  An hour into the Rocky mountain"foothills" the sky was getting dark, we saw snow in the distance,  wind was whipping snow across the road, the temps were dropping rapidly and the decision was made to turn around.   We did stop at Southpark - home of the Southpark tv show.

As we headed back the sun came out and we took a side trip into Evergreen, CO.  This is a mountain community where a lot of money is.  Saw mansions and castles and Compounds of wealth.  Walked along the very rustic streets of Evergreen and had lunch at a little cafe called Tin Star Colorado Bar-B-Que and Donut Haus.  It had 3 tables and pretty good sandwiches and DONUTS!! :)  Shopped at a nice store and Mimi and I bought ourselves a nice pair of earrings called firefly jewelry.   It sparkles real pretty.

After Evergreen we drove to Red Rocks Amphitheater.   It was quite an adventure!   Stunningly beautiful in its magnificence.   The road leading in was very winding and we parked at the bottom and walked up about 1/2 mile to the STAIRS! !   After pulling ourselves up the 100+ stairs we made it to the stage... and then to get a spectacular view we walked up more stairs.   Honestly,  it was great!   One of the pictures I am enclosing is at the top-with the stage in the shadows and Denver in the top left of the picture.  It really was worth every breathless step.  Lots of amazing history here.  Did you know that the 1st "concert"  there was in 1910?  The amphitheater was actually dedicated in 1941.  Bought some cool souvenirs here.

Headed home and we will rest up for another adventure tomorrow.
